July 2010 : Meeting Notes

Thank you to everyone who attended the third meeting of the Swansea Bay Futures Network, and to all those who have expressed their interest. It was a positive discussion, but we’re keen to see what support there is for acting on the great ideas that have been put forward.

Obviously we are all busy with full time jobs, so we need to use time effectively.  I suggest we should focus on ways that we can effect results by working together in seemingly small ways, as well as piggybacking on existing events and ‘open doors’ where our group could make a difference.

We also think it is important to work with other organisations which are already engaged in specific challenges – the Swansea BID for ways of promoting the city centre, the Swansea Bay Tourism Partnership for ideas relating to attracting more visitors and co-ordinating activity, and others (suggestions welcome!).

Topics covered at the third meeting of the network included:

  • LinkedIn, Twitter & Facebook – how to make best use of e-marketing ideas
  • Photography of Swansea Bay – can we share and distribute photos better?
  • Ryder Cup – are we prepared for visitors, is this an opportunity for Swansea?
  • Accessibility – do we need to raise awareness of public transport options?
  • Swansea Airport – the group felt the airport could boost business and tourism.
  • Role of Students – to attract students and retain graduates, can we enlist their support?
