June 2010 : Meeting Notes
The second meeting of the Swansea Bay Futures was very well attended, and took forward the discussion started in May. It was an open discussion and wide-ranging in its scope. Topics raised included how we promote Swansea Bay at key arrival points such as Cardiff airport, Bristol airport, the train and bus stations and the ferry terminal – all agreed that more needs to be done, particularly when it comes to raising the profile of Swansea Bay to visitors in Cardiff.
The group also discussed the importance of events as a way to encourage more visitors to the region – and also to boost community spirit and civic pride locally. It was mentioned that the waterfront and the marina should be capitalised on. To date, Swansea Bay Futures has taken the approach of ‘piggy backing’ on existing events and conferences, providing welcome packs and gifts to visitors and helping to raise awareness of everything the the region has to offer. All agreed that there is a need for more communication and collaboration amongst event organisers locally. Could this be a role for the network?
